First Meet in the Books!

Hello Bronco families and fans,

This past Thursday, we had our first meet at home, against Steele Canyon High School. We had some great performances across the board with many athletes having their first opportunity to compete in a real Track & Field meet! Find the full meet results for Rancho Bernardo vs Steele Canyon here and some incredible meet day photos by DC Lenswork here. Want to send a HUGE thank you to all of the parents who helped make our meet possible by volunteering. We have many upcoming volunteer opportunities available for parents (aunts, uncles, adult siblings, family friends, etc), most pressing being Saturday March 14th for our Annual Don Jones Bronco Invitational. See sign ups here.

Each week a new Bronco Breakdown will be posted here on our team website recapping the last weeks’ meets and upcoming information! Stay tuned and be sure to follow our team instagram @BroncosTF for more realtime updates! Also, join our team on Team Stack App click here.

Athletes of the Meet - Steel Canyon Dual Meet

Each week, we will highlight Athletes of the Meet for the prior weeks meet(s). These athletes are selected by their respective event coaches for their performance at the meet. Athletes who had break out performances, big PRs, pulled off something big for the team score, great sportsmanship, etc. We want to take the time to highlight a couple of athletes who had spectacular performances at our dual meet against Steele Canyon.

  • Hurdles -

    • Xavier Oliver (11) starting the season off with a bang, putting together almost a full second PR 300 hurdles (44.97->44.11). He took advantage of the competitive heat and was aggressive from start to finish.

    Long/Triple Jump -

    • Breas O'Conner (10) after finding out the day of the meet he would not be allowed jump due to an injury, he went on to rake the pit and help out the ENTIRETY of the meet. Finding a way to still make an impact and being. a team player!

    • Vibha Reddy (9) for coming out from soccer and being very nervous/never having jumped and going on to jump 15 feet in her first ever meet.

    Pole Vault -

    • Jackson O'Neill (12) Triple PR!

    • Alyssa Molloy (10) Triple PR! (10’-6”)

    • Molly Harris (10) Triple PR! (11’-0”)

    • ALSO! Molly Harris and Sonia Humer (also at 11’-0”) , are currently the # 1 10th graders in California. Alyssa is #2!

    Sprints -

    • Cal Grandinetti (10) opening up his track career with a 52.7 in the 400 (even without sprint spikes!) and then coming back to help the boys 4x4 to a win with a 53 split! Huge shout out to the boys 4x4 as a whole they battled with great energy and effort to set the tone for a strong season!

    • Vibha Reddy (9) put together 2 outstanding races (100 and 200) in her first meet!

    High Jump -

    • Anthony Dizon (12) opening up his senior season with a PR (personal record) of 6 feet even. Highlighting the hard work and dedication he has put in in the off season leading up to this spring!

    • Caleb Johnson (12) pulled a lot of weight helping me run boys and girls high jump comps, helping coach measure almost every bar accurately and running announcements up to Coach Don Jones in the announcer box 💪

    Throws -

    • Cassidy Austin (12) super helpful running discus, took initiative and started teaching the freshman how to run the ring (mark, retrieve, measure) and took 1st place in the event (92' 6) also helped coach and support her teammate while Coach Savannah was at Shot put.

    • Cooper Laborde (12) very coachable, was able to take cues and adjust during the meet when Coach asked him to change/do things he haven’t done before. Pulled off a PR in both the shot put (44' 10) and discus (124' 0) then stayed after to help run JV boys discus and made things run smoother and faster.

    • Honorary mentions: Chance Curry and Lucas Serrano also both had PR’s in shot (46' 4 & 42' 8 respectively) “and a special thanks to all of my JV who helped run everything, I would not have been able to do it with out their help!”

    Distance -

    • Bobby Elmore (9) with his breakout performance, running a 4:51 for the 1600, and 2:11 for the 800. Both marks likely already qualify him for frosh/soph championships.

    • Savannah Maguire (11) we try to be better every day and she stood out the most if being the best and had a 9 second PR in the 16, 14 second pr in the 800!

Our Next Meets

This week we have a dual meet against Torrey Pines High School. This is slated to be an away meet at Torrey Pines, but their boys soccer teams playoff schedule may land them with a home game on Thursday. In which case we would host the meet at RB and need parent support running the snack bar and field events. We will have the final answer tomorrow, Tuesday, Night but if you are available and willing to sign up and be on call, please click here. More info on this week’s dual meet here.

On Saturday March 7th, a limited team will compete at Mt Carmel’s Field and Distance Carnival more info here. Weekend invitationals are more competitive/higher level meets for our Varsity level athletes. We enter athletes and they must qualify/be accepted into the meet by the meet director. For this reason we bring a much more limited number of athletes to these meets.

Donate your used spikes to a Bronco in need!

If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another Bronco in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
