Back 2 Back CIF Champions

Hello Bronco families and fans,

We have made it to the end of the 2026 Track & Field season! The last couple of weeks have been jam packed with break through performances, school records, big wins and huge moments for our program as a whole. We will recap D1 Finals, CIF San Diego Section Finals, our end of season Awards Banquet and our trip up to the California State Meet.

Division 1 Finals - May 16th

With a D1 Title win in 2025, our boys had some serious competition in San Marcos and Helix. Lead by some key point scorers in Brice Abawi, Chase Anderson, Silas Christensen, Chance Curry, Miles De La Cruz, Anthony Dizon, Jack Fernandes, Cal Grandinetti, Damien Havrilak, Cooper Laborde and Noah Morales, we were able to defend our title and be named 2026 Boys CIF Division 1 Champions with a final score of 68.25 to San Marcos’ 58.75. On the girls side we spent the season unranked and under the radar, we were not in the conversation of a title, but after a strong season an infusion of a talented freshmen class and coming off of a Palomar League title, the girls did not come to play! We brought a pack of Bronco girls and they showed up, edging out Del Norte (last years D1 champion winners) and finishing 2nd to Steele Canyons incredibly talented team, taking home the Title of 2026Girls D1 Runner Up with a score of 65 to Steele Canyon’s 72 and Del Norte’s 60.75. An incredible showing from our girls and evidence of a bright future ahead. RB has the best all around, most complete team (boys and girls) in San Diego. Find full meet results here, podium pictures here, and photo albums by Phil Grooms & Bodies in Motion.

D1 individual champions include, The boys 4×1 (Christensen, Abawi, De La Cruz and Grandinetti) Riley Biddle in the 1600 & 3200 and Brice Abawi in the 100 & 200.

CIF San Diego Championships - May 23rd

The following weekend we were back at Mt Carmel for the San Diego Section Championships, where all of the very best athletes across all of San Diego compete head to head to earn a trip to the California State meet. Our boys fought all day long scoring points across so many events to cement the win and take home the title of CIF San Diego Section Champions for the first time in program history, with a decisive score of 183 to the Palomar League Champion Team, San Marcos’ 144. The girls continued an incredibly strong showing finishing 3rd to two powerhouse programs in Steele Canyon and Cathedral Catholic. We are tremendously proud of our girls team, the upperclassman who set the tone and the youngsters who came in swinging, you can never count out the Broncos! You can find final meet results here and photos by Brett Alan and Phil Grooms.

San Diego Section Individual Champions include, The boys 4×1 (Christensen, Abawi, De La Cruz and Grandinetti), Chance Curry in discus and Brice Abawi in the 100 & 200.

2026 RB Track & Field Awards Banquet - May 26th 2026

We got together at the Westwood Club to celebrate an incredible seasons worth of accomplishments both as a team and individually. HUGE thanks to Patty Tokishigue, Nika Pascual and Allison Harris for their help with all of the banquet things and Dan Cella for taking photos (view here) for us all to remember the evening! We celebrated our JV teams for and UNDEFEATED league season, our Girls Varsity for a 3 way tie to share the Palomar League Team Title (4-1 record), D1 runners up and 3rd in CIF San Diego Section Finals, and our Varsity boys finishing 2nd in league (4-1 record), back to back D1 Champions and for the first time in program history, San Diego Section Champions!

We also sent off our dear friend and Coach, Coach Kevin as he moves back east. He has left a tremendous impact on our program and us as people. His enthusiasm and passion for our sport, our team and RB will be dearly missed and we wish him all of the best on his next adventures!

Donate your used spikes to a Bronco in need!

  • If your athlete has spikes (competition shoes) from a past season that are in decent condition, they can use them again. If they are getting new spikes and don’t need their old ones, feel free to bring them to practice and we can share them with another Bronco in need! Once your athlete gets their spikes, have them show their coach before wearing them at practice. We can help navigate each athletes needs.
